Overview
SIST EN IEC 60335-2-51:2024/A11:2024 is a European standard published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CLC) that specifies the safety requirements for electric stationary circulation pumps used in household and similar settings, particularly in heating and service water installations. This standard applies to circulation pumps with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase devices and 480 V for other appliances. The amendment A11 supplements and clarifies existing safety provisions, aligning with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU.
Key Topics
Scope Expansion
The standard covers all stationary circulation pumps used in domestic and similar environments, including those batteries or d.c.-supplied. Commercially used pumps and those installed within shops, offices, farms, hotels, and similar environments are also addressed, with specific requirements in Annex ZE.Safety Objectives
The document addresses foreseeable hazards linked to installation, operation, and maintenance. It outlines protection measures for users, including those with reduced capabilities, and defines restrictions regarding children’s interactions with these appliances.Marking and Instructions
Updated clauses demand clear instructions for end-users, particularly warnings that children must not use or maintain pumps unsupervised. For commercial appliances, explicit statements about intended use and maximum sound emission levels (≤ 70 dB(A)) are required.Technical Requirements
The amendment clarifies procedures for protection against access to live parts and construction durability (e.g., guard and interlocking systems undergoing 5000 operational cycles), ensuring robust safety in real-life use.Conformity with EU Directives
The standard provides a route for presumption of conformity with the safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive, vital for CE marking and legal market access within the EEA.
Applications
Heating Systems
Circulation pumps addressed by this standard are integral to central heating and other household heating systems, moving water efficiently between components.Service Water Installations
These pumps also facilitate the delivery of service water (e.g., domestic hot water supply) in residential and commercial settings.Commercial Use
With explicit guidance for commercial environments, the standard supports safe installation and operation in offices, hotels, shops, light industry, and agricultural settings.Product Design and Manufacturing
Manufacturers utilize this standard to design pumps that comply with essential safety requirements, facilitating market entry and enhancing user trust.Compliance and Certification
Compliance with SIST EN IEC 60335-2-51:2024/A11:2024, alongside EN 60335-1, is often required for certification, product labeling, and meeting regulatory obligations under EU law.
