Overview

SIST EN 1992-1-1:2005/A1:2015 is the Slovenian adoption of Eurocode 2: Design of concrete structures - Part 1-1: General rules and rules for buildings. This standard provides essential guidelines for the structural design of buildings and civil engineering works constructed using reinforced and prestressed concrete, whether with normal or lightweight aggregates. It also applies to plain or lightly reinforced concrete and precast concrete, including components with unbonded tendons.

The standard is harmonized across Europe and implemented under the guidance of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It introduces modifications and updates that provide improved clarity and practical provisions for the design and safety of concrete structures in building construction.

Key Topics

SIST EN 1992-1-1:2005/A1:2015 addresses several critical topics relevant to the design and safety of concrete structures, including:

  • General design principles: Overarching rules for achieving safety, serviceability, and durability in reinforced and prestressed concrete buildings.
  • Material properties: Guidelines for using normal-weight and lightweight aggregates and specifying the mechanical properties of concrete.
  • Structural behavior: Requirements for ductility, strength, and stability, including modifications to definitions and equations.
  • Design methods: Provisions for the calculation of resistance, including new expressions for punching shear resistance and simplified methods for walls and columns.
  • Shear reinforcement: Updated formulations for punching shear in slabs and column bases, taking into account advancements in design research and practice.
  • Bracing systems: Updated guidance for bracing systems to account for shear deformation and stability.

These amendments ensure that the code remains aligned with technical advancements and best practices in the field of concrete construction.

Applications

This standard is widely used by structural engineers, architects, construction companies, and designers engaged in the following applications:

  • Structural design of buildings: Ensures consistency and safety in the design of multi-storey buildings, residential complexes, and commercial structures using concrete.
  • Civil engineering works: Applies to a range of infrastructure projects, including bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, and precast concrete components.
  • Reinforced and prestressed concrete elements: Assists in designing slabs, beams, columns, walls, and foundations with both bonded and unbonded tendons.
  • Precast and lightweight concrete applications: Provides specific rules for structural elements using innovative materials and construction techniques.

By following this standard, professionals can achieve conformity with EU construction regulations, facilitate international collaboration, and confidently address safety and durability requirements within projects.

Related Standards

For comprehensive implementation, reference to the following related international standards is recommended:

  • EN 1992-1-1:2004 - Original version of Eurocode 2, forming the base for this national adoption and amendment.
  • EN 1992-1-2 - Eurocode 2, Part 1-2: Structural fire design, addressing safety in fire conditions.
  • EN 1990 - Eurocode: Basis of structural design, providing general design principles and safety requirements.
  • EN 1991 - Actions on structures (Eurocode 1), covering loading conditions.
  • EN 206 - Specification, performance, production, and conformity of concrete.
  • EN 1992-2 - Eurocode 2 Part 2: Concrete bridges, offering further guidance for civil infrastructure projects.

For designers and construction professionals working on reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, adherence to SIST EN 1992-1-1:2005/A1:2015 ensures alignment with recognized European best practices and enhances the safety, reliability, and longevity of concrete buildings and civil engineering works.
