Overview
SIST EN 301 489-18:2002 is a Slovenian standard that aligns with the European Norm (EN 301 489-18), focusing on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) equipment. Developed by SIST and adopted from ETSI specifications, this standard establishes specific EMC test conditions, performance assessments, and criteria tailored for TETRA radio devices and their ancillary equipment. The standard serves as a crucial reference for manufacturers, test labs, and regulatory authorities involved in ensuring the EMC of TETRA systems, contributing to the reliable operation of radio communication services and compliance with EU directives.
Key Topics
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Requirements
The standard lays out the requirements for managing electromagnetic interference in TETRA equipment, helping prevent disruptions among co-located electronic devices.Test Conditions and Methods
Clearly defined procedures for the test environment, setup, and arrangements for test signals at transmitter and receiver ports ensure uniformity in testing across different equipment types and manufacturers.Performance Assessment Criteria
The standard details both audio and non-audio test criteria, including methods for evaluating Bit Error Ratio (BER), Message Erasure Rate (MER), audio breakthrough, and audio distortion under various interference conditions.Special Conditions for TETRA
Specific requirements and exceptions apply for transceivers, base stations, mobile and portable equipment, and direct mode operation (DMO).Applicability and Product Scope
The document highlights the relevance of EMC emission and immunity tests for mobile, base station, and portable TETRA equipment, including associated ancillary devices.
Applications
TETRA System Development
Manufacturers and designers utilize this standard to ensure new TETRA devices meet robust EMC criteria, minimizing operational disruptions and ensuring interoperability within complex radio networks.Conformity Assessment and Certification
Laboratories and notified bodies use the outlined test methods and performance criteria to verify compliance against EU regulations such as the EMC Directive and the R&TTE Directive.Critical Communications
Organizations managing public safety and emergency services benefit from EMC-tested TETRA equipment, ensuring reliable mission-critical communications without interference.Ancillary Equipment Integration
The standard supports the safe integration of ancillary equipment-such as control terminals or audio accessories-by defining clear EMC performance requirements.
