Overview

SIST EN 2125:2019 is a European Standard developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) that specifies requirements for aluminium alloy Al-P16-, in the T6151 temper, supplied as rolled plates with thicknesses from over 6 mm up to and including 120 mm. This standard is part of the Aerospace series and targets applications within the aerospace industry where stringent material properties and traceability are critical.

Purpose:
To define the technical conditions for the supply of aluminium alloy Al-P16- plates, including requirements for composition, production method, mechanical properties, and delivery conditions, ensuring consistent quality for aerospace manufacturers and suppliers.

Key Topics

  • Material Scope: The standard applies to aluminium alloy Al-P16-, T6151 temper, in plate form with thickness between 6 mm and 120 mm.
  • Requirements: Outlines the material’s chemical composition, production process, mechanical strength, temper conditions, and test methods.
  • Conformance: Details on delivery conditions, testing, and qualification according to references such as EN 4400-1 (technical specification for aluminium plate) and EN 4500-2.
  • Quality Assurance: Establishes the need for agreement on the product qualification programme between manufacturer and purchaser.
  • Traceability: Ensures traceability from production to supply, vital for safety-critical aerospace components.

Applications

SIST EN 2125:2019 is extensively used within the aerospace industry, supporting the design, manufacture, and maintenance of aircraft and related equipment where high-strength aluminium plates are required. Typical applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Aircraft Structural Components: Plate stock is used for primary and secondary aircraft structures, such as wing assemblies, fuselage skins, and frames.
  • Aerospace Manufacturing: Supports the fabrication of critical mechanical parts that require precise mechanical properties and high reliability.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Provides standards for replacement components, ensuring compatibility and consistent performance with originally specified materials.
  • Engineering and Design: Used by engineers to specify compliant materials for safety-critical parts in aerospace projects, ensuring materials meet European requirements.

The standard ensures that manufacturers and suppliers deliver aluminium plate materials that meet established strength, formability, and quality benchmarks, contributing to the safety, durability, and compliance of aerospace platforms.

Related Standards

To facilitate harmonization in aerospace material specifications, SIST EN 2125:2019 cross-references several related European and international standards:

  • EN 4258: General organization of standardization for metallic materials in aerospace, outlining how different standards fit within the broader context.
  • EN 4400-1: Technical specification applicable to aluminium and aluminium alloy plates, provides the overarching requirements relevant to EN 2125.
  • EN 4500-2: Establishes rules for drafting and presenting standards for aluminium, aluminium alloys, and magnesium alloys.
  • ISO/IEC Normative References: References terminology databases (ISO OBP and IEC Electropedia) for standard terms.

These standards help ensure consistent interpretation, manufacturing, and supply of aluminium and other metallic materials across the aerospace sector.
