This International Standard applies to Source Switching Equipment, hereafter referred to as SSE(s), for household and similar uses, primarily intended to be used for Energy Efficiency purposes with local production and/or storage of energy. This standard has been drafted following principles of: - IEC guides 118 and 119 for Energy Efficiency; - IEC guide 110 for safety. SSEs are intended to be installed in low voltage prosumer electrical installations (PEI) to deliver the electrical energy: - either to current-using equipment (direct feeding mode or island mode); - or to the grid (reverse feeding mode). SSEs are intended to select and/or combine two power sources (e.g. selected among grid, local power source, storage units) within an Electrical Energy Management system (EEMS). SSEs may also be used for backup supply. NOTE SSEs capable to select more than two sources are under consideration. SSEs are part of the fixed electrical installation. This standard applies to SSEs for operation in: - AC single or multiphase circuits with rated voltages not exceeding 440 V AC, frequencies of 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz and rated currents not exceeding 125 A. They are intended to be used in installations with prospective short circuit current not exceeding 25 000 A, or - DC circuits. SSE for DC circuits are under consideration (next edition). SSEs may be operated: - manually (M-SSE), or - remotely (R-SSE), or - automatically (A-SSE), or - a combination of the above methods of operation, e.g. manual and remote. SSEs are constructed either as Combined-SSEs (C-SSEs, based on dedicated products suc as circuit breakers, switches or contactors) or Non-Combined SSEs (NC-SSEs). SSEs are intended for use in circuits where protection against electrical shock and over-current according to IEC 60364 is provided, unless the SSE already contains such protective function. SSEs are normally installed by instructed persons (IEC 60050-195:1998, 195-04-02) or skilled persons (IEC 60050-195:1998, 195-04-01). SSEs are normally used by ordinary persons (IEC 60005-195:1998, 195-04-03) and do not require maintenance. The requirements of this standard apply for standard environmental 420 conditions as given in clause 7. They are applicable to SSEs intended for use in an environment with pollution degree 2 and overvoltage categories III according to IEC 60664-1:2020. SSEs have at least a degree of protection IP 20 according to IEC 60529. Additional requirements may be necessary for devices used in locations having more severe environmental conditions. SSEs do not, by their nature, provide an isolation function nor the overcurrent protection. However, isolation and overcurrent protection functions as covered by relevant product standards may be provided by Combined SSEs. In some countries, it is not permitted to have synchronization of local sources with the grid for particular grid conditions, e.g. when fluctuations of the grid voltage or frequency are outside the tolerance limits. This document does not apply to transfer switching equipment (TSE) intended to be used by skilled persons, as covered by IEC 60947-6-1:2021.

This document specifies the main characteristics of the voltage at a network user's supply terminals in public low voltage, medium, high, and extra-high voltage AC electricity networks under normal operating conditions. This document specifies the limits or values within which the voltage characteristics can be expected to remain at any supply terminal in public European electricity networks, only. Industrial networks are excluded from the scope of EN 50160. NOTE 1 If non-public networks (e.g. residential quarters, energy communities, office centres, shopping centres) have similar end-users as public networks, it is strongly advised to apply the same requirements as for public networks. This document does not apply under abnormal operating conditions, including the following: a) a temporary supply arrangement to keep network users supplied during conditions arising as a result of a fault, maintenance and construction work, or to minimize the extent and duration of a loss of supply; b) in the case of non-compliance of a network user's installation or equipment with the relevant standards or with the technical requirements for connection, established either by the public authorities or the network operator, including the limits for the emission of conducted disturbances; NOTE 2 A network user’s installation can include load and generation. c) in exceptional situations, in particular: 1) exceptional weather conditions and other natural disasters; 2) third party interference; 3) acts by public authorities, 4) industrial actions (subject to legal requirements); 5) force majeure; 6) power shortages resulting from external events. The voltage characteristics given in this document refer to conducted disturbances in public electric power networks. They are not intended to be used as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) levels or product emission limits. Power quality is related to EMC in several ways - especially because compliance with power quality requirements depends on the control of cumulative effect of electromagnetic emissions from all/multiple equipment and/or installations. Therefore, the voltage characteristics given in this document gives guidance for specifying requirements in equipment product standards and in installation standards. NOTE 3 The performance of equipment might be impaired if it is subjected to supply conditions which are not specified in the equipment product standard. NOTE 4 This document can be superseded in total or in part by the terms of a contract between the individual network user and the network operator. The sharing of complaint management and problem mitigation costs between the involved parties is outside the scope of EN 50160. Measurement methods to be applied in this document are described in EN 61000-4-30.

This part of IEC 61340 provides test methods for measuring the electrical resistance of garments used for static control applications. These test methods can be used for evaluating outer garments that are homogenously conductive or homogeneously dissipative, or that utilize surface conductive or surface dissipative components or elements. NOTE The test methods defined in this standard might not be able to measure materials with buried conductive layers. The resistance point-to-point test method tests the electrical resistance between the two sleeves, any two panels or any two or more electrically interconnected components of the static control garment, including the electrical resistance across the seams and cuffs of the garment as applicable. An alternate sleeve-to-sleeve test method is allowed, using clamps to hang a garment. Static control garments that electrically bond to the wearer and provide a path to ground from the wearer are evaluated using the resistance point-to-point test method, the resistance point to groundable point test method, as well as a system test to determine the resistance from the person through the garment to the groundable point of the garment system. A band resistance measurement test is provided in IEC 61340-4-6 which can be used for garments so equipped with cuffs that are intended to perform the same function as a wrist strap band. The system test with a person wearing a groundable static control garment system includes the ground cord that connects to the groundable point of the garment.

IEC 62305-2:2024 is applicable to the risk management of a structure due to lightning flashes to earth. Its purpose is to provide a procedure for the evaluation of such a risk. Once an upper tolerable limit for the risk has been selected, this procedure provides a means for the selection of appropriate protection measures to be adopted to reduce the risk to or below the tolerable limit. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition, published in 2010. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) The concept of a single risk, to combine loss of human life and loss due to fire, has been introduced. b) The concept of frequency of damage that can impair the availability of the internal systems within the structure has been introduced. c) The lightning ground strike-point density NSG has been introduced replacing the lightning flash density NG in the evaluation of expected average annual number of dangerous events. d) Reduction of a few risk components can be achieved by the use of preventive temporary measures activated by means of a thunderstorm warning system (TWS) compliant with IEC 62793. The risk of direct strike to people in open areas has been introduced, considering the reduction of that risk using a TWS.
