Overview

SIST EN 12467:2013+A1:2016/oprA2:2017 is a key European Standard developed by CEN (European Committee for Standardization) for fibre-cement flat sheets. This standard specifies the product requirements, testing procedures, and conformity criteria for fibre-cement flat sheets, including siding shingles and planks, used in construction. Its primary scope encompasses internal and external wall and ceiling finishes, ensuring these products meet strict quality and safety guidelines for building applications.

Fibre-cement sheets covered by EN 12467 are reinforced with various types of fibres and are evaluated for performance through standardized test methods. However, this standard does not extend to products designed specifically for fire protection, nor does it prescribe design or installation techniques.

Key Topics

  • Product Specification:
EN 12467 details criteria for the physical and mechanical properties of fibre-cement sheets-including composition requirements-to ensure consistency and reliability in construction use.

  • Test Methods:
The standard outlines approved procedures for testing mechanical resistance, water impermeability, durability, and reaction to fire. It specifies how results should be obtained, typically with mechanical loads applied to the upper face during testing.

  • Quality Assurance:
Continuous factory production control (FPC) is mandated, with significance of any manufacturing changes subject to thorough assessment. The standard defines how situations requiring different AVCP (Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance) systems are managed.

  • Regulatory Compliance and CE Marking:
EN 12467 is harmonized under Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 (Construction Products Regulation), supporting manufacturers in achieving CE marking and issuing Declarations of Performance (DoP) for their products.

Applications

Fibre-cement flat sheets specified under EN 12467 are widely used in construction projects where robust, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance wall and ceiling finishing materials are needed. Common applications include:

  • Internal wall and ceiling linings:
Providing a smooth, durable surface for interior spaces, especially where humidity resistance is required.

  • External cladding and facade panels:
Offering protection against environmental factors, ensuring long-term aesthetic and functional performance of building envelopes.

  • Ceiling finishes in external settings:
Used in sheltered outdoor spaces where durability and moisture resistance are important.

  • Other compliant construction uses:
When aligned with relevant application standards, fibre-cement sheets can also serve as rigid underlays or substrate layers in roofing or flooring assemblies.

Related Standards

For complete compliance and best practices in fibre-cement product use, consider these related European standards:

  • EN 197-1: Cement - Part 1: Composition, specifications, and conformity criteria for common cements. (Referenced for the cement component in fibre-cement sheets.)
  • EN 13501-1: Fire classification of construction products and building elements.
  • EN 13964: Suspended ceilings - Requirements and test methods.
  • EN 14511: For mechanical testing terminology and definitions related to buildings.

Aligning with these standards helps ensure fibre-cement flat sheets deliver reliable performance, regulatory compliance, and lasting value in construction environments.

By adhering to SIST EN 12467:2013+A1:2016/oprA2:2017, manufacturers and construction professionals can verify fibre-cement flat sheets meet essential requirements for safety, durability, and compliance with EU regulations-supporting high-quality building outcomes across Europe.
