Overview

SIST EN 60730-2-13:1999/A11:2005 is a European standard specifying the particular requirements for automatic electrical controls for household and similar use, focusing specifically on humidity sensing controls. Published by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST), this standard applies to devices that regulate and monitor humidity for optimal environmental conditions in domestic and comparable settings. This amendment ensures these controls meet consistent safety, reliability, and performance criteria across Europe.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Applicability

    • Applies to humidity sensing controls used in appliances and household systems.
    • Excludes automatic controls addressed by EN 60730-2-1, clarifying the unique considerations for humidity sensors.
  • Safety Requirements

    • Establishes safety benchmarks to minimize risks associated with electrical humidity controls.
    • Addresses protection against electrical shock, fire hazards, and operational failures.
  • Performance Standards

    • Outlines functional requirements for accuracy and reliability of humidity sensing devices.
    • Ensures consistent operation under normal household electrical environments.
  • Amendment Focus

    • Amendment A11 updates requirements in line with European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) directives.
    • Sets clear implementation and withdrawal dates for national standards to ensure harmonization across member countries.

Applications

The standard is applicable to a range of automatic humidity sensing controls in both residential and similar environments. Key applications include:

  • HVAC Systems: Ensuring proper humidity regulation and energy efficiency in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Home Appliances: Used in devices such as dryers, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers for optimal performance and user safety.
  • Smart Home Automation: Integrated into connected homes for climate control, enhancing comfort and sustainability.
  • Building Controls: Used in environmental monitoring systems in non-industrial buildings such as offices, hotels, and schools.

By providing harmonized requirements, SIST EN 60730-2-13:1999/A11:2005 supports the development and use of humidity controls that are reliable, safe, and compatible with other household systems across European markets.

Related Standards

Manufacturers and stakeholders should consider the following related standards when designing and implementing humidity sensing controls:

  • EN 60730 Series: General and specific requirements for automatic electrical controls for household use.
    • EN 60730-2-1: General requirements; not applicable to humidity sensing controls as per this amendment.
    • EN 60730-2-2 and Further Parts: Additional parts may cover other types of control devices.
  • IEC 60730: International basis for household automatic electrical control standards, harmonized in the EN 60730 series.
  • National Implementations: Ensures consistency across CENELEC member states through adoption as national standards.

Practical Value

Implementing SIST EN 60730-2-13:1999/A11:2005 benefits manufacturers, system integrators, and end users by:

  • Enhancing product safety and reliability in everyday applications.
  • Supporting market access through standardized compliance.
  • Improving consumer trust with robust humidity control performance in modern households.

This standard is essential for companies operating in the European market, ensuring their humidity sensing controls meet recognized safety and performance expectations for household and similar uses.
