Overview

ISO 10474:2013 – Steel and Steel Products – Inspection Documents defines the standardized types of inspection documents that manufacturers supply to purchasers for steel and steel products. This International Standard ensures consistent documentation and traceability in the delivery of steel products, aligning inspection requirements with the order details. It is intended for use alongside ISO 404 (general technical delivery requirements for steel and steel products) and ISO 4990 (steel castings).

Key Topics

ISO 10474:2013 establishes clear guidelines for the following inspection documents concerning steel and steel products:

  • Declaration of Compliance (2.1): Confirms compliance with the order, issued by the manufacturer, with no included test results.

  • Test Report (2.2): Documents compliance with the order and provides test results from non-specific inspections conducted by the manufacturer.

  • Inspection Certificate 3.1: Issued by the manufacturer, validated by an authorized inspection representative independent from production, this document includes specific test results for the supplied products.

  • Inspection Certificate 3.2: Requires validation from both the manufacturer’s and purchaser’s authorized representatives or a designated third-party inspector, and contains test results based on specific inspections tailored to the supplied products.

These document types detail the required content, responsible parties for validation, and the traceability process for steel product inspections. They ensure transparency and accountability in the supply chain by clearly denoting the manufacturer’s and, where relevant, purchaser’s involvement in the inspection process.

Applications

Adhering to ISO 10474:2013 provides practical value across the steel industry and related fields:

  • Purchasers and End Users: Gain confidence in the quality and compliance of steel products through validated inspection documentation.

  • Manufacturers: Benefit from a clear, internationally recognized framework for supplying accurate inspection documents, supporting efficient order fulfillment and regulatory compliance.

  • Intermediaries (e.g., steel service centers, stockists): Ensure the maintenance of product traceability when distributing steel products, with allowed documentation practices such as issuing copies or additional identification records.

  • Quality Assurance and Supply Chain Management: Streamline auditing and traceability processes by adopting standardized document formats, improving risk management and contractual clarity.

  • International Trade: Facilitate cross-border transactions by using globally recognized and accepted inspection documentation, reducing disputes and misunderstandings regarding steel product conformity.

Related Standards

To achieve comprehensive compliance and quality assurance in steel product deliveries, ISO 10474:2013 is used in conjunction with other international standards:

  • ISO 404: Steel and steel products – General technical delivery requirements: Outlines the overall requirements for steel product deliveries, serving as the foundation for documentation.

  • ISO 4990: Steel castings – General technical delivery requirements: Specifies the delivery conditions for steel castings, complementing the inspection procedures in ISO 10474:2013.

  • ISO/NP 16228: Provides certification guidelines and test report requirements for fasteners, related to the broader context of inspection documents.

By integrating these standards, organizations can ensure robust, standardized procedures for steel product inspection, documentation, and delivery, vital for maintaining quality and trust within the global steel supply chain.

Keywords: ISO 10474, steel inspection documents, steel product delivery, test report, inspection certificate, steel quality assurance, international steel standards, traceability, compliance documentation.
