Overview

FprEN IEC 60335-2-62:2026/FprAA:2026 is a European standard developed by CLC, focusing on the safety requirements of commercial electric rinsing sinks used in commercial kitchens and similar environments. The standard applies to appliances with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase units (connected between one phase and neutral) and up to 480 V for other appliances. It prescribes requirements critical for the safe design, use, and maintenance of electric rinsing sinks in professional settings, supporting compliance with European safety directives and market best practices.

Key Topics

This standard covers several essential aspects relevant to the safety of commercial electric rinsing sinks:

  • Scope Expansion: Addresses all reasonably foreseeable hazards during intended use, including those affecting people with disabilities, children, and domestic animals.
  • Definitions and Markings: Clarifies terms and ensures precise instructions and markings on appliances for consistent interpretation across the industry.
  • Instructions for Use: Stipulates specific user guidance, particularly regarding supervision, safe access, and the exclusion of children and domestic animals from hazards.
  • Heating and Moisture Resistance: Details updated requirements regarding appliance operation under various environmental conditions, emphasizing resistance to moisture and safe heating performance.
  • Supply Connections: Specifies safe connection practices for external flexible cords and supply lines, reducing risk of electric shock and equipment malfunction.
  • Normative References: Includes references to associated international standards on thermocouples and mechanical fasteners, ensuring that essential components meet recognized quality and safety benchmarks.

Applications

FprEN IEC 60335-2-62:2026/FprAA:2026 is intended for manufacturers, importers, and operators of electrical commercial rinsing sinks within:

  • Commercial Kitchens: Restaurants, hotels, institutional canteens, and catering facilities rely on electric rinsing sinks for fast and hygienic rinsing of kitchenware.
  • Professional Food Service Operations: Ensures that rinsing sinks are designed with safety features suitable for high-frequency, professional use settings.
  • Installers and Maintenance Staff: Provides clear guidelines for the safe installation, connection, and routine maintenance of appliances to prevent incidents and equipment damage.
  • Compliance Bodies and Inspectors: Facilitates easier compliance checks with European safety requirements by detailing specific obligations for product safety.

Following this standard aids businesses and manufacturers in demonstrating product safety, compliance with regulatory frameworks, and alignment with best practice in commercial kitchen operations.
