- doors outside the reach of people (such as crane gantry fences); - railway barriers; - barriers used solely for vehicles.
Tore - Widerstand gegen Windlast - Prüfung und Berechnung
1.1 Allgemeines Diese Europäische Norm legt das Prüfverfahren für den und/oder die Berechnung des Widerstand(es) gegen Windlast von Toren in geschlossener Stellung fest.Die Tore sind für den Einbau in Zugangsbereichen von Personen vorgesehen, wobei deren Hauptaufgaben darin bestehen, für Waren- und Fahrzeugverkehr sichere Zufahrt und Personen sicheren Zutritt zu Industrie-, Gewerbe-oder Wohnanlagen zu ermöglichen. Die Tore dürfen hand- oder kraftbetätigt sein. Diese Norm gilt für alle Tore nach prEN 13241:1998. 1.2 Ausnahmen Sie gilt nicht für: - Schleusentore und Docktore; - Türen in Aufzügen; - Türen in Fahrzeugen; - gepanzerte Türen; - Tore, die hauptsächlich zum Zurückhalten von Tieren vorgesehen sind; - textile Theatervorhänge; - horizontal bewegbare Tore mit einer Breite von weniger als 2,5 m und einer Fläche von weniger als 6,25 m², die hauptsächlich für die Benutzung durch Fußgänger ausgelegt sind; - Drehtüren von beliebiger Größe; - Tore außerhalb der Reichweite von Personen (wie z. B. Schutzgitter für Portalkräne);
- Eisenbahnschranken; - ausschließlich für den Fahrzeugverkehr verwendete Schranken.
Portes équipants les locaux industriels, commerciaux et de garage - Résistance à la charge de vent - Essais et calculs
La présente norme européenne spécifie la méthode d'essai et/ou de calcul de la résistance des portes en position fermée aux charges dues au vent. Les portes sont destinées à être installées dans des zones accessibles aux personnes dont l'utilisation principale prévue est de donner un accès sans danger aux marchandises, aux véhicules et aux personnes dans des locaux industriels, commerciaux ou résidentiels. Les portes peuvent être manoeuvrées manuellement ou motorisées. Le présent document s'applique à toutes les portes prévues conformément au prEN 13241:1998. 1.2 Exclusions Elle ne s'applique pas : - aux portails fermés à clé et aux grilles d'entrée de docks ; - aux portes d'ascenseurs ; - aux portes de véhicules ;- aux portes blindées ; - aux portes principalement utilisées pour la retenue des animaux ; - aux rideaux en tissu de théâtres ; - aux portes manoeuvrées horizontalement ayant une largeur inférieure à 2,5 m et une surface inférieure à 6,25 m² principalement destinées à l'usage des piétons ; - aux portes tambours quelles que soient leurs dimensions ;
- aux portes hors d'atteinte des personnes (comme les barrières sur les portiques de grue) ; - aux barrières de passages à niveau ; - aux barrières exclusivement destinées à la circulation automobile.

Overview
EN 12444:2000 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies the methods for testing and calculating the resistance to wind load for industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates. The standard is designed to ensure that these doors and gates, when installed in areas accessible to people, are capable of withstanding wind pressure safely in a closed position. This is crucial for maintaining secure and safe access for goods, vehicles, and persons within industrial, commercial, and residential premises. Both manually and power-operated doors are covered under this standard, provided they comply with the related requirements outlined in prEN 13241:1998.
Key Topics
Scope of Application: EN 12444:2000 applies to all doors specified for industrial, commercial, and garage use, including those in residential areas, that provide passage for goods, vehicles, and people.
Testing and Calculation Methods: The standard details both test procedures and calculation methods to determine a door’s resistance to wind load while closed.
Exclusions: The document does not apply to certain specialized doors and barriers, including:
- Lock and dock gates
- Lift doors
- Vehicle doors
- Armoured security doors
- Animal retention doors
- Theatre textile curtains
- Horizontally moving pedestrian doors under specified size limits
- Revolving doors
- Barriers for railway or vehicles only, and structures inaccessible to people
Safety and Durability: Focuses on ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance for doors commonly used in environments where human access is frequent.
Applications
EN 12444:2000 is relevant to manufacturers, installers, and inspectors of industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates who need to guarantee compliance with European requirements for wind load resistance. Practical uses include:
- Design and Specification: Engineers and manufacturers use the standard to design doors that meet required safety levels for wind resistance in their target environments.
- Quality Assurance: Provides a framework for consistent testing and calculation methods, facilitating reliable performance assessments.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensures doors and gates meet local and regional building codes, promoting safety in public and private facilities.
- Installation and Maintenance: Guides installation and maintenance professionals in checking compliance during initial set-up and periodic inspections.
This standard is especially valuable for industrial and commercial facilities needing robust external doors, as well as residential garages and access points exposed to significant wind loads.
Related Standards
Organizations and professionals dealing with industrial doors and gates may also consider the following standards:
- EN 13241: The core product standard for industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates, specifying product requirements.
- EN 12604 & EN 12605: Related to mechanical and physical properties and testing for durability and safety.
- EN 12453: Focused on the safety in use of power operated doors.
- EN 16361: Specifies requirements for power-operated pedestrian doorsets.
Adherence to EN 12444:2000 and related standards supports consistent product quality, enhances safety, and streamlines market access across the European Union.
