ETSI ES 202 391-11 V1.3.1 (2008-05) - Open Service Access (OSA); Parlay X Web Services; Part 11: Audio Call (Parlay X 2)
Overview
SIST ES 202 391-11 V1.3.1:2008 is the eleventh part of the Open Service Access (OSA) - Parlay X Web Services specification, focusing on the Audio Call Web Service interface as part of the Parlay X 2.2 release. Developed by SIST in collaboration with ETSI and the Parlay Group, this standard specifies a set of Web Services that enable application developers to initiate and control audio calls over modern telecommunications networks through open and standardized APIs. The Audio Call service is designed to deliver voice messages to users, providing a simple and interoperable interface for integration into a wide range of telecommunication systems and applications.
Key Topics
- Web Service Interface Definition: Defines the PlayAudio interface, including detailed operations for playing text, audio, and VoiceXML messages, retrieving message status, and stopping messages.
- API Operations:
- playTextMessage: Sends a text-to-speech message via audio call to a specified recipient.
- playAudioMessage: Plays an audio file to a recipient over a call.
- playVoiceXmlMessage: Delivers VoiceXML-based interactions to end users.
- getMessageStatus: Checks the playback status of a specific message.
- endMessage: Cancels or ends message playback.
- Data Definitions: Details of message statuses (e.g., Played, Playing, Pending, Error) and XML schema definitions.
- Namespaces: Clarifies the unique namespaces used for the AudioCall interface and its data types.
- Service Policies: Specifies policies such as support for text-to-speech, audio formats, VoiceXML, and charging options.
- Fault Definitions: Standardized errors are referenced to ensure reliable and predictable application behavior in response to service or policy issues.
- Sequence Diagrams: Illustrates typical message flows for audio playback and cancellation.
- WSDL Description: Provides a Web Services Description Language (WSDL) reference for implementation and integration.
Applications
The Audio Call Web Service in SIST ES 202 391-11 V1.3.1:2008 offers practical functionality for developers and organizations looking to automate or enhance communication workflows in telecommunication environments, including:
- Customer Notifications: Automated delivery of appointment reminders, alerts, or emergency messages via audio call, using text-to-speech or pre-recorded audio.
- Interactive Voice Solutions: Integration of VoiceXML content to provide interactive voice response (IVR) scenarios without direct management of telephony resources.
- Contact Centers: Effortless notification or information broadcasting to individual users through phone numbers specified by URIs.
- Billing and Charging: Customizable charging mechanisms for payable audio services, integrated via the standard policy interface.
- Service Integration: Simplifies the embedding of voice services into enterprise applications, service provider platforms, and communication solutions using standardized, open APIs.
