Overview
SIST EN 300 097-2 V1.2.4:2005 is a Slovenian standard aligned with EN 300 097-2, which addresses the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) supplementary service known as Connected Line Identification Presentation (COLP). This standard provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification for the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol, specifically for the COLP service. The document is intended to help manufacturers and service providers verify and declare conformance to the relevant ISDN protocol specifications.
It supersedes previous references from ETS 300 102-1 and associated I-ETSs by updating them to ETS 300 403, ensuring consistency with current ISDN basic call and supplementary service requirements across European networks.
Key Topics
- ISDN and DSS1 Protocol: Focuses on the pan-European ISDN network architecture and the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol, supporting advanced telecommunications services.
- Connected Line Identification Presentation (COLP): A supplementary service that allows the calling party to obtain the connected party's line identity upon call establishment.
- PICS Proforma Specification: The document supplies a standardized, structured form (proforma) that must be completed by suppliers to declare which protocol capabilities and options their implementation supports.
- Conformance Assessment: Details procedures for completing the PICS, including the identification of the implementation, supplier, client, and responsible contact person, as well as instructions for declaring support for protocol options and mandatory features.
- Roles and Capabilities: Specifies roles for both user and network implementations, identifying major and subsidiary capabilities, supported protocol data units, and parameter handling.
- Reference Updates: Specifies compliance with ETS 300 403 as the primary reference for ISDN DSS1 protocol basic call control, replacing older ETS 300 102-1 references.
Applications
The SIST EN 300 097-2 V1.2.4:2005 standard is widely applicable in the telecommunications industry, particularly for:
- ISDN terminal equipment manufacturers: Ensuring that devices such as telephones, PBXs, and network interfaces are protocol compliant and interoperable in European ISDN networks.
- Telecommunications network operators: Verifying the compatibility and conformance of network elements and services supporting COLP, contributing to network reliability and a consistent user experience.
- Testing and certification bodies: Utilizing the PICS proforma as a basis for formal conformance testing and certification processes for ISDN-related products and systems.
- Service providers: Declaring compliance to regulatory authorities and customers regarding support for the COLP supplementary service using DSS1.
- System integrators: Ensuring all network and user equipment interoperates according to standardized DSS1 protocol features and updates.
By systematically completing the PICS proforma provided in this standard, organizations can clearly communicate which ISDN functions their products support, facilitating interoperability, market acceptance, and compliance with European norms.
