Overview
SIST ETS 300 164 E1:2003 is a Slovenian standard aligned with ETSI ETS 300 164. It specifies the service description for the Meet-Me Conference (MMC) supplementary service within the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). This standard delivers a user-centric, stage 1 description, outlining how the MMC enables conference calls between multiple participants via a dedicated access number within public and private ISDN environments. The document encompasses interworking requirements, service functionalities, and interactions with various supplementary ISDN services.
Key Topics
Meet-Me Conference (MMC) Service
The MMC supplementary service allows users to schedule and participate in conference calls using a special ISDN number, making group communications accessible to multiple simultaneous participants.Activation, Deactivation, and Registration
- Activation: The service is booked by the initiating (served) user for a specific period.
- Deactivation: Conferences end automatically at the scheduled time, disconnecting all participants after in-band notification.
- Registration: Users provide conference details (date, start/end time, expected participants) when booking the service.
Access and Participation
Each participant uses the supplied special ISDN number to join. Information is sent in-band to users-before and during the conference-for clarity and management.Operator Roles
Operators may be authorized to supervise, manage participation, and adjust parameters (e.g., conference duration, participant cap) as needed.Interworking and Supplementary Services
The standard details interworking between the public ISDN, private ISDNs, and other networks capable of voice transmission. It also describes interactions with supplementary services such as call hold, call transfer, number identification, and call waiting.
Applications
Corporate Conference Calls:
MMC is ideally suited for businesses needing scheduled group calls, team meetings, or collaboration sessions, ensuring seamless communication across locations.Service Providers:
Telecommunication operators can offer MMC as a value-added ISDN service to enhance productivity and communication options for subscribers.Private and Public ISDN Access:
Both private branch exchanges (PBXs) and public ISDN networks can implement MMC for internal, external, or mixed user groups.Multi-network Participation:
Participants may connect from various networks, including PSTN and ISDN, broadening accessibility for remote teams and external contacts.Event Scheduling:
Organizations can leverage the booking capabilities to manage conferences in advance, with options to update, cancel, or modify conference parameters as requirements change.

ETS 300 164: October 1992
Foreword
This European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Network Aspects (NA)
Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
In accordance with CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1], the following three level structure is used to
describe the supplementary telecommunications services as provided by European public
telecommunications operators under the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN):
- Stage 1: is an overall service description, from the user's standpoint;
- Stage 2: identifies the functional capabilities and information flows needed to support the service
described in stage 1; and
- Stage 3: defines the signalling system protocols and switching functions needed to implement the
service described in stage 1.
This ETS details the stage 1 aspects (overall service description) for the Meet-Me Conference (MMC)
supplementary service. The stage 2 aspects are detailed in ETS 300 165 (1992). The individual calls in an
MMC are each basic calls with no special signalling functions, therefore no stage 3 ETS is provided.

1 Scope
This standard defines the stage one of the Meet-Me Conference (MMC) supplementary service for the
pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European public
telecommunications operators. Stage one is an overall service description from the user's point of view
(see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1]), but does not deal with the details of the human interface itself.
This standard defines the interworking requirements of private ISDNs with the public ISDN.
In addition this standard specifies the base functionality where the service is provided to the user via a
private ISDN.
This standard does not specify the additional requirements where the service is provided to the user via a
telecommunications network that is not an ISDN but does include interworking requirements of other
networks with the public ISDN.
Interactions with supplementary services not listed in Clause 8 are outside the scope of this standard.
Charging principles are outside the scope of this standard.
The MMC supplementary service enables a user to arrange for a call between more than two participants.
During the period the conference is active, participants use a special number to access the conference.
The MMC supplementary service is applicable to all circuit-switched telecommunications services carrying
speech.
This standard is applicable to the stage two standard for the ISDN MMC supplementary service. The term
"stage two" is also defined in CCITT Recommendation I.130 [1]. Where the text indicates the status of a
requirement, (i.e. as strict command or prohibition, as authorisation leaving freedom, or as a capability or
possibility), this shall be reflected in the text of the relevant stage two standard.
This standard is an application of the requirements contained in the basic call standards and therefore,
conformance to this standard is met by conforming to the stage two standard with the field of application
appropriate to the equipment being implemented. Therefore no method of testing is provided for this
standard.

This standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed
hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of any of these publications
apply to this standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the
