Overview
SIST ETS 300 064-2:1996 is a Slovenian standard, identical to ETS 300 064-2, which specifies the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the Direct Dialling In (DDI) supplementary service within the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), at the user-network interface, based on the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. This document provides a standardized method for suppliers to declare conformance of their ISDN protocol implementations-both for user and network roles-at layer 3 of the user-network interface.
Scope:
The standard is designed for pan-European ISDN implementations, focusing on the protocol features and procedures required to deliver DDI services via DSS1 at the S and T reference points. It forms the foundation for further development of conformance and interoperability testing tools, such as PIXIT and Abstract Test Suites (ATS), and aligns closely with ISO/IEC 9646 guidance for conformance statements.
Key Topics
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS):
- A formal, structured declaration of which protocol features and options have been implemented
- Based on a questionnaire completed by product suppliers or implementers for any ISDN-DSS1 DDI service
Coverage for Both User and Network:
- Distinguishes between requirements for implementations acting in the user role (e.g., subscriber devices, PBXs) and network role (e.g., public network switches)
- Ensures clarity on support for major and subsidiary capabilities, protocol data units (PDUs), timers, and call state handling
Alignment With International Frameworks:
- Conformance requirements and PICS proforma constructed in accordance with ISO/IEC 9646 series, ensuring consistency with global OSI protocol conformance processes
- References to supporting standards for supplementary service interactions and requirements
Foundation for Conformance and Interoperability Testing:
- Serves as the basis for developing PIXIT (Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing) and ATS, facilitating static and dynamic testing of ISDN implementations
Applications
The practical value of SIST ETS 300 064-2:1996 centers on the standardization and verification of ISDN equipment deployed across Europe that delivers DDI supplementary services:
Procurement and Product Declaration:
- Enables ISDN equipment vendors to clearly specify the protocol capabilities their devices support
- Facilitates transparent, comparable declarations for customers, regulatory bodies, and testing agencies
Conformance Assessment:
- Used by manufacturers and independent labs to verify that an ISDN device meets the mandatory requirements for DDI support at the user-network interface
- Forms the essential documentation required before entering advanced interoperability testing
Network Planning and Integration:
- Assists operators and integrators in selecting and deploying ISDN devices or systems that are provably compliant with pan-European protocol requirements
- Supports seamless interworking between public and private ISDN networks

Foreword
This European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Signalling Protocols and
Switching (SPS) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
This ETS is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Direct Dialling In (DDI)
supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing
(PIXIT) proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "TSS&TP specification for the network";
Part 6: "ATS and partial PIXIT proforma specification for the network".
NOTE: The first part, ETS 300 064-1 (1991), containing the protocol specification, was initially
published as ETS 300 064 (1991) and has identical contents.
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which
capabilities and options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI)
protocol. Such a statement is called a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).

1 Scope
This second part of ETS 300 064 is applicable to the stage three of the Direct Dialling In (DDI)
supplementary service for the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by
European public telecommunications operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference
point (as defined in ITU-T Recommendation I.411 [9]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling
System No. one (DSS1) protocol. Stage three identifies the protocol procedures and switching functions
needed to support a telecommunications service (see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [8]).
This ETS provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 DDI supplementary service protocol as specified in ETS 300 064-1 [1] in compliance with the
relevant requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [7].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to ETS 300 064-1 [1] is required to
complete a copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of this ETS and is required to provide the
information necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.

This ETS incorporates by dated and undated reference, provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed
hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications

edition of the publication referred to applies.

3 Definitions
For the purposes of this ETS, the following definitions apply, in addition to those given in
ETS 300 064-1 [1]:
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS): A statement made by the supplier of an
Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) implementation or system, stating which capabilities have been
implemented for a given OSI protocol (see ISO/IEC 9646-1 [6]).
PICS proforma: A document, in the form of a questionnaire, designed by the protocol specifier or
conformance test suite specifier, which, when completed for an OSI implementation or system, becomes
