Overview
SIST EN 300 093-2 V1.2.4:2005 is a Slovenian implementation of the European Standard for Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), focusing on the Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. This standard specifies the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma, which is a key element in demonstrating protocol compliance for both ISDN user and network implementations.
This part (Part 2) of the standard provides the framework needed for vendors and network operators to document the conformity of their implementations with the established requirements for CLIR supplementary service protocol. The scope also includes updated references, most notably replacing older call control references (ETSI 300 102-1 and associated I-ETSs) with ETSI 300 403.
Keywords: ISDN, CLIR, DSS1, PICS, protocol conformance, digital networks, telecommunications standards.
Key Topics
- ISDN and CLIR Supplementary Service: The standard addresses the provision of the Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) service, which enables users to prevent their calling identification from being presented to the called party.
- DSS1 Protocol: Applies to the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one, which is widely used in European public telecommunications for ISDN basic rate interfaces.
- PICS Proforma Specification: This standard outlines the format and content required in the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement, which documents how a particular system or product implementation complies with the ISDN CLIR requirements.
- Conformance Process: Instructions for suppliers on completing the PICS, including supplying details of the Implementation Under Test (IUT), System Under Test (SUT), and related conformance information.
- Requirements Alignment: Provides harmonization with current European ISDN standards by referencing updated basic call and supplementary service interaction specifications (notably EN 300 403).
Applications
SIST EN 300 093-2 V1.2.4:2005 is essential for:
- Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturers: Ensures that equipment such as ISDN terminals or network nodes correctly implement the CLIR supplementary service using DSS1 and meet European regulatory requirements.
- Network Operators and Service Providers: Facilitates network integration and interoperability by specifying requirements for conformance statements, aiding in procurement and deployment of ISDN services.
- Testing Laboratories and Certification Bodies: Provides a standardized template for conformance documentation, enabling consistent and repeatable evaluation of products and systems for protocol compliance.
- System Integrators: Assists in verifying end-to-end compatibility and correct implementation of CLIR within multi-vendor ISDN environments.
- Regulatory and Standards Authorities: Supports effective oversight and promotes harmonization across European ISDN deployments.
Related Standards
To provide a comprehensive approach, this standard makes reference to and should be considered alongside:
- EN 300 093-1: ISDN; CLIR supplementary service; DSS1 protocol specification (Part 1: Protocol specification).
- EN 300 403-1: ISDN; DSS1 protocol; Signalling network layer for circuit-mode basic call control; Protocol specification [aligned with ITU-T Q.931].
- EN 300 403-3: ISDN; DSS1; PICS proforma for network layer basic call control.
- EN 300 195-1/2: ISDN; DSS1; Supplementary service interactions (protocol and PICS proforma).
- ISO/IEC 9646-1 and 9646-7: International standards for conformance testing methodology and implementation conformance statements.
- CCITT/ITU-T I.130, I.411: Guidelines for ISDN service characterization and user-network interfaces.
By adhering to SIST EN 300 093-2 V1.2.4:2005 and its related references, organizations help maintain high levels of interoperability, reliability, and service quality across ISDN systems and networks throughout Europe.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Calling Line Identification Restriction
(CLIR) supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

6 EN 300 093-2 V1.2.4 (1998-06)
1 Scope
This second part of EN 300 093 is applicable to the stage three of the Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR)
supplementary service for the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European
public telecommunications operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in
ITU-T Recommendation I.411 [9]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol.
Stage three identifies the protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications service
(see CCITT Recommendation I.130 [8]).
The present document provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 CLIR supplementary service protocol as specified in EN 300 093-1 [1] in compliance with the relevant
requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [7].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to EN 300 093-1 [1] is required to complete a
copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of the present document and is required to provide the information
necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.

3 Definitions
For the purposes of the present document, the following definitions apply, in addition to those given in
EN 300 093-1 [1]:
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS): A statement made by the supplier of an Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) implementation or system, stating which capabilities have been implemented for a given OSI
protocol (see ISO/IEC 9646-1 [6]).
PICS proforma: A document, in the form of a questionnaire, designed by the protocol specifier or conformance test
suite specifier, which, when completed for an OSI implementation or system, becomes the PICS (see
ISO/IEC 9646-1 [6]).
static conformance review: A review of the extent to which the static conformance requirements are met by the IUT,
accomplished by comparing the PICS with the static conformance requirements expressed in the relevant standard(s)
(see ISO/IEC 9646-1 [6]).
