Overview

ISO/TR 7470:2026, Gas Cylinders - List of Provisions, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), provides a comprehensive inventory of gas cylinder valve outlets currently in use worldwide. This technical report details the types and sizes of threads associated with each valve outlet, offering a valuable cross-reference suited to stakeholders in the gas industry, including cylinder manufacturers, users, and regulatory authorities. While ISO/TR 7470 lists engineering provisions and dimensional data, it refers users to pertinent national standards for full specifications of individual valve outlets.

Key Topics

  • Valve Outlet Listings
The document systematically catalogs gas cylinder valve outlets by gas type, country, and thread type, aiding in global harmonization and compatibility checks.

  • Thread Types and Sizes
A key focus is providing details on thread types and sizes associated with different gas cylinder valve outlets. This helps ensure the safe and correct connection of equipment.

  • Reference Tables
Reference is given through a spreadsheet available online, presenting tabulated data on nominal dimensions, designations, and relevant national standards by country and by thread specification.

  • Safety and Interoperability
Clear identification of valve outlet provisions is crucial for safe gas handling, reducing the risk of mismatched connections, and minimizing hazards in the transport and use of compressed and liquefied gases.

  • Regulatory Reference
The report highlights that pressure ratings are derived from relevant standards and generally correspond to the working pressure for compressed gases or test pressures for liquefied gases.

Applications

ISO/TR 7470 is a critical reference for:

  • Gas Cylinder Manufacturers
Ensuring adherence to internationally recognized outlet provisions and compatibility in global markets.

  • Gas Distributors and Fillers
Verifying the correct outlet and thread arrangements for different gases, enhancing safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Inspection and Testing Bodies
Cross-referencing valve outlets to check for legal and functional conformity during audits and checks.

  • Engineering and Maintenance
Supporting the selection and maintenance of appropriate valve connections on gas cylinders, contributing to operational safety and efficiency.

  • National Standards Setting and Harmonization
Facilitating the harmonization process for national and international standards, and reducing ambiguity in the identification of valve types.

Related Standards

  • ISO 10297 - Gas cylinders - Cylinder valves - Specification and type testing
Covers the requirements and testing methods for valves fitted to gas cylinders.

  • ISO 5145 - Cylinder valve outlets for gases and gas mixtures – Selection and dimensioning
Specifies requirements for the selection and dimensions of valve outlets.

  • ISO/TC 58 - Gas cylinders
The technical committee responsible for the standardization in the field of gas cylinders, including their accessories.

  • National Standards
For complete and specific dimensional details or descriptions of valve outlets, relevant national standards should be consulted, as indicated in this technical report.

Conclusion

ISO/TR 7470 serves as an essential global reference for anyone involved with gas cylinders and their fittings. By offering an up-to-date and comprehensive list of gas cylinder valve outlets used around the world-along with associated thread types and sizes-it helps promote safety, compatibility, and harmonization in both international and domestic gas cylinder operations. For full implementation, users should always cross-reference with relevant national and international standards.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through
ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee
has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations,
governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely
with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are described
in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the different types
of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of the
ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 (see www.iso.org/directives).
