Overview
EN 45510-4-8:1999 is a European standard published by CLC, providing essential guidance for the procurement of boiler auxiliaries, specifically dust handling plants, in coal-fired steam generating power stations. This standard supports electricity generating stations in specifying and acquiring suitable equipment for the effective management and conveyance of dust produced during power generation. It is particularly focused on technologies for pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic conveying systems. Notably, this guide does not address nuclear power plants or other application areas outside conventional fossil fuel-based power stations.
Key Topics
EN 45510-4-8:1999 covers a range of topics critical to the procurement of dust handling plant equipment for power stations:
- Technical Specification Guidelines: Provides advice for drafting comprehensive technical specifications for dust handling systems.
- Types of Dust Handling Equipment: Guidance includes equipment for pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic dust conveying and transport systems.
- Equipment Design Considerations: Emphasizes key parameters such as operational reliability, maintainability, and compatibility with existing power station boiler auxiliaries.
- Interface and Integration: Offers considerations for integrating dust handling plants with different sections of coal-fired steam generation systems.
- Procurement Process Support: Supports both purchasers and suppliers with best practices for preparing documentation, ensuring clarity and consistency in procurement processes.
- Exclusions and Limitations: Specifically excludes dust handling equipment intended for nuclear reactor plant areas, and does not consider uses outside of electricity generating stations.
Applications
EN 45510-4-8:1999 is invaluable to a variety of stakeholders involved in the power generation industry:
- Electricity Generating Stations: Ensures the procurement of reliable and efficient dust handling systems, supporting cleaner and safer operation in coal-fired power plants.
- Procurement Engineers: Assists in drafting precise technical documentation for the purchase of dust conveying equipment tailored to the unique demands of power stations.
- Suppliers and Manufacturers: Provides a reference framework, aligning supplier offerings with operator requirements and international best practices.
- Project Managers: Helps in mitigating operational risks by setting clear performance and integration criteria during plant design and construction phases.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance Teams: Supports adherence to industry regulations, organizational goals, and environmental standards for dust emission control.
Related Standards
This standard is part of a broader series of standards designed to guide the procurement of power station equipment. Related and relevant standards include:
- EN 45510-4 Series: Covering other aspects of boiler auxiliaries within power stations.
- EN 45510 General: Overarching guidelines for procurement of power station equipment.
- IEC and ISO Standards: Referenced in areas such as boilers, heat exchangers, and overall thermal plant performance.
- National Adaptations: Local versions such as SIST EN 45510-4-8:2000 in Slovenia align with the European standard for consistency in procurement practices.
By following EN 45510-4-8:1999, organizations ensure high standards in the procurement, installation, and integration of dust handling equipment, ultimately promoting safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation within coal-fired electricity generating stations.
