Ta evropski standard določa zahteve, preskusne metode in merila za delovanje za sestavne dele, ki se uporabljajo v sistemih za javljanje požara ter alarmiranje, nameščene v in okoli stavb, ki uporabljajo radijsko frekvenčne povezave (RF povezave) za komunikacijo. Prav tako podaja zahteve za vrednotenje skladnosti sestavnih delov z zahtevami tega evropskega standarda. Kadar sestavni deli delujejo skupaj, kar zahteva poznavanje načrtovanja sistema, ta dokument prav tako določa zahteve za sistem. Kadar sistemi za odkrivanje in javljanje požara ter alarmiranje (FDAS) uporabljajo ožičene in RF povezave, veljajo ustrezni deli EN 54 skupaj z tem dokumentom. Zahteve, ki se nanašajo na ožičene povezave, so izpodrinjene ali spremenjene z tistimi, ki so vključene v ta evropski standard.
