Overview
FprEN 15767-2 is a European standard developed by CEN for portable equipment used in firefighting support operations, focusing on portable monitors and specifically manual water nozzles. This standard outlines critical requirements for the safety, performance, classification, designation, test methods, usage, maintenance instructions, and marking of manual water nozzles. It applies to nozzles delivering water or water mixed with firefighting additives designed for modern emergency response scenarios. The document is not applicable to water nozzles manufactured before its publication date.
Through standardized requirements and verification protocols, FprEN 15767-2 aims to ensure that portable water nozzles offer reliable, effective, and safe performance, improving the operational efficiency of fire services across Europe.
Key Topics
- Scope and Applicability: Covers manual water nozzles with or without fire extinguishing additives used in conjunction with portable monitors; does not apply to older equipment.
- Classifications: Defines several types of water nozzles, such as smooth bore, combination nozzles with adjustable patterns, and automatic water nozzles.
- Mechanical and Hydraulic Requirements:
- Mass limits: Sets maximum allowable weights according to flowrate capacity.
- Operating Elements: Specifies torque and force requirements for handling and rotating components.
- Material Resilience: Outlines standards for resistance to heat, frost, and debris (flush capability).
- Hydraulic Performance: Defines flowrate accuracy, effective throw distance, spray angle, and leak-tightness.
- Ergonomic Design: Mandates that all water nozzles must be easy to operate, even when worn with protective firefighter gloves.
- Testing and Verification: Provides detailed test procedures for all requirements, including type tests for performance and safety.
- Documentation and Marking: Requires detailed instruction and maintenance handbooks, as well as clear, permanent markings on each nozzle.
Applications
FprEN 15767-2 delivers practical value for:
- Fire departments and emergency services: Ensuring consistency and safety when choosing or procuring portable firefighting nozzles.
- Manufacturers of firefighting equipment: Providing a harmonized benchmark for developing, testing, and certifying water nozzles for portable monitors.
- Testing laboratories and inspectors: Offering clear compliance and acceptance test guidelines, including documentation review and operational inspection.
- Procurement and safety officers: Supporting selection of equipment that meets recognized European standards for operational safety, robustness, and reliability.
Typical use cases include urban, industrial, and rural firefighting, where effective deployment of water streams is critical for fire suppression and control. The standard is vital for situations requiring high-performance monitors and versatility in adjusting flow and spray patterns.
Related Standards
- EN 15767-1: General requirements for portable monitor assemblies. FprEN 15767-2 is directly referenced for water nozzle requirements.
- EN 15182-1:2019: Defines terminology and general requirements for portable firefighting equipment supplied by pumps, including hand-held branchpipes.
- EN 659: Standard for firefighter protective gloves, referenced for ergonomic design requirements.
- EN ISO 228-1 and EN ISO 228-2: Pertains to pipe thread dimensions and verification, relevant for fitting compatibility of water nozzles.
These related standards ensure interoperability, safety, and consistent quality across firefighting equipment and operations.
By implementing FprEN 15767-2, stakeholders can ensure robust safety, optimal performance, and consistent documentation for water nozzles used in portable firefighting monitors, aligning with European best practices and regulatory expectations. This helps increase the efficacy and safety of fire suppression efforts in diverse environments.
