Overview
FprEN 15767-1 is a European standard developed by CEN (European Committee for Standardization) that specifies the general requirements for portable monitor assemblies used in projecting extinguishing agents and in firefighting support operations. This standard establishes minimum safety and performance criteria, including requirements for mechanical and hydraulic characteristics, materials, testing methods, marking, and use and maintenance instructions. It applies to monitor assemblies that can be deployed either as mobile units or temporarily fixed installations (such as on vehicles or fire boats).
The scope of FprEN 15767-1 does not cover monitors permanently installed on firefighting vehicles, which are addressed separately in EN 1846-3. It also excludes devices manufactured prior to its date of publication.
Key Topics
Safety & Performance Requirements
Details minimum safety standards, ensuring operator protection and reliable performance during emergency operations.Mechanical Characteristics
Requirements regarding fitting systems, mass, handling elements, and ease of operation (including the use of monitors with firefighter gloves).Hydraulic Performance
Stipulates maximum allowable pressure loss, burst pressure resistance, sensitivity to heat and frost, and leak-tightness standards at specified reference, nominal, and test pressures.Operational Stability
Sets specific criteria for equipment stability when operated at maximum stated flowrate, including under challenging angles or conditions.Marking & Documentation
Outlines the required visible, legible, and durable markings for product identification, serial numbers, and safety references. Specifies the inclusion of comprehensive instructions for safe operation and maintenance.
Applications
Firefighting Operations
Portable monitor assemblies are essential for delivering water or foam quickly to large-scale fires in open or industrial settings. Their mobility and flexible installation options are vital for rapid response and changing firefighting scenarios.Emergency Response
Used on various platforms, including portable ground bases, temporary mounts on vehicles, or boats, these monitors provide adaptable solutions for diverse firefighting and rescue operations.Industrial Safety
Industries handling flammable materials or requiring large-scale fire protection benefit from standards-compliant portable monitors to ensure safe response capabilities and reliable firefighting equipment.Equipment Procurement & Maintenance
The standard supports organizations in selecting, testing, and maintaining portable monitor assemblies. The required instruction and maintenance handbooks facilitate ongoing operator training and regular servicing.
